Schoodic Summer Chorus
If music be the food of love - sing on!
Songs of love from the romantic to the divine...
This multi-generational a cappella community chorus is devoted to nurturing
musicianship and community. Directed by singer and composer Anna Dembska,
its members share a passion for singing beautiful and unusual music. Their
eclectic repertoire provides opportunities for creative expression, vocal
and musical growth, and entertaining challenges for singers and audiences
alike. The Schoodic Summer Chorus will sing a kaleidoscope of love songs,
from romantic love to spiritual love to love of country and the earth, with
madrigals, music from the Republic of Georgia and Latin America, shape-note
hymns, and arrangements of Ravel, Sibelius, and 20th-century pop songs.

Debi Irons: Art Moves
Modern Jazz Dance Silly to sublime...
Debi Irons is a dancer/choreographer/educator and Maine native who has
dedicated the past 20 years to expanding variant dance in rural Maine. Her
performance styles range from modern to musical theatre, afro-Brazilian and

exclaimed, "I could feel every move you made!" Musicians she has worked
with describe her as "one of us. It's like you are one of the instruments."
Irons explains, "I want the audience to see what they are hearing. I try to
make the audio, visual." "Rave Infinitum," from the Waldo Theatre. This

The UMM Ukulele Club
An Eighty Year Tradition
The Ukulaliens have landed!
Founded at the University of Maine at Machias in 1926, and revived some 80
years later, the UMM Ukulele Club is a mix of students and community
members, numbering more than 40 when everyone shows up. They range in age
from 13 to 89. Gene Nichols, UMM's music professor the last 22 years, is
the group's enthusiastic, high-energy leader. They were invited to play in
Liverpool, Nova Scotia, last October at the 2nd International Ukulele
Ceilidh. Their rock-and-roll style was a hit with the traditionalists, and
their playbook of more than 1,100 songs was the weekend's most requested
item. They play events from 90th birthday parties to pot luck suppers in

In Their Own Words
A History of the Lobster Industry
Narrated by Cathy Billings...
We invite you to join the Lobster Institute for a trip along an historic
timeline of the lobster industry, "In Their Own Words: A History of the
Lobster Industry," narrated by Cathy Billings. Along the way, the Lobster
Institute highlights milestones of the American lobster industry from its
start in the 1600's to present day. You'll find out when the first lobster
catch was recorded and learn what a lobster "smack" is. You'll hear about
the first lobster fishing regulations and what the catch has been like for
the past fifty years. Special highlights include video clips and quotes
from interviews with veteran lobster fishermen -- filmed as part of the
Institute's ongoing oral history project.

Meetinghouse Theatre Lab
Schoodic Arts' Collaborative Ensemble
'ART': THE REPRISE
The ever popular Meetinghouse Theatre Lab returns to Hammond Hall for
a reprise of its spring production, 'Art' (by Yasmina Reza and translated
from the original French by Christopher Hampton). 'Art' is a play about
art and friendship involving three friends; Serge, the fervent convert
to modern art, Marc, the rationalist, and Yvan, the spineless vacillator.
MHTL's past productions include the Third Saturday Readings series,
Rabbit Hole, Almost Maine, and (at recent festivals) evenings
of improv and comedy. Functioning as an entirely collaborative theatre
ensemble, Schoodic Arts for All's Meetinghouse Theatre Lab reads from
the work of new voices in today's theater. Often funny, sometimes disturbing,
and searching always, for what is true. [website]
